Regulation Status

Kansas approaches AI through public-sector security and criminal-law updates rather than a comprehensive statute. SB 2313 prohibits state agencies from using an AI platform of concern, including DeepSeek.
Kansas has amended criminal statutes addressing AI-enabled sexual abuse and extortion. HB 2479 amends K.S.A. 21-5428 to include sexual content depicting an identifiable person that was created or altered by artificial intelligence within the definition of blackmail, with existing criminal penalties applying.
HB 2537 amends K.S.A. 21-5515 so that images, videos, or other recordings generated by artificial intelligence fall within Kansas's definition of sexual extortion, with existing criminal penalties applying.
Kansas has not enacted a broad, risk-based AI framework or general automated-decision statute. Its posture remains narrow, focused on state-agency use of AI platforms of concern and on synthetic sexual imagery in the criminal code.
