Regulation Status

• Alaska has not enacted a comprehensive AI statute, and as of mid-2026 its AI-specific measures remain pending in the 34th Legislature (2025–2026). The furthest-advanced is House Bill 47, which passed the Alaska House 39–0 on 27 February 2026 and moved to the Senate; it would criminalize AI-generated child sexual abuse material as a Class B felony and allow a civil penalty of up to $1 million against an AI platform for each instance its system is used to produce such material, alongside restrictions on minors' social-media use.
• Broader governance proposals are also under consideration. Senate Bill 2, introduced by Senator Shelley Hughes on 22 January 2025, would require disclosure of election-related deepfakes and direct state agencies to maintain biennial inventories and impact assessments of AI systems used for consequential decisions; it remained in the Senate State Affairs Committee in early 2026. The Legislature has also considered a concurrent resolution (HCR 3) that would establish a Joint Legislative Task Force on Artificial Intelligence to study responsible AI use and development, though it stalled in House Finance in 2025.
