Regulation Status

• On the basis of the available record, Syria has no comprehensive, binding AI-specific national law captured in the digest; its engagement to date is participation in international and regional AI governance initiatives rather than a dedicated domestic AI statute.
• Syria joined China's Global Artificial Intelligence Governance Initiative in March 2024, announced by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates following the initiative's launch at the Third Belt and Road Forum.
• Syria is also within the Arab League context where the Secretary General called in February 2025 for a regional AI regulatory framework aligned with Arab values, addressing large language models and generative AI and localisation of the AI industry.
