Regulation Status

  • Nepal has no comprehensive, binding AI-specific law in force; it relies on a national AI policy and a draft IT/cyber security bill that remains pending.
  • Nepal's Cabinet approved the National AI Policy 2025 (11 August 2025), drafted by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology to foster AI development and ensure ethical, transparent and inclusive application across sectors, with emphasis on managing risky, false or misleading AI-generated information.
  • A draft IT and Cyber Security Bill (released 12 March 2024) provides that AI, machine learning, blockchain and IoT should be used in a transparent, accountable, safe and respected manner, alongside the earlier Digital Nepal Framework (2019) which references emerging technologies including AI.
