Regulation Status

• Macau SAR has no comprehensive, binding AI-specific law; it is monitoring other jurisdictions while engaging in international data governance cooperation.
• The Macau SAR government has signalled a cautious, wait-and-see approach to AI regulation, observing frameworks in regions such as the EU as a reference before legislating, according to its Post and Telecommunications Bureau in May 2024.
• Macau's data protection authority joined a September 2025 joint statement, alongside authorities from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong and others, on building trustworthy data governance frameworks to encourage innovative, privacy-protecting AI.
