Regulation Status
- Kenya has no comprehensive, binding AI-specific law in force; binding regulation is pending while AI bills and a draft code of practice progress alongside the national AI strategy.
- Kenya released its national Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2025-2030 (March 2025), positioning Kenya as an African AI hub across digital infrastructure, data ecosystems and research, and introducing a regulatory framework for ethical AI use, data sovereignty and cybersecurity.
- Kenya engages internationally, adopting the 2025 Paris Charter on AI, joining the International Network of AI safety institutes and entering a 2026 Italy-India-Kenya trilateral AI partnership for Africa.
- Legislative activity includes the earlier Kenya Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Society Bill (2023), which would require persons in the robotics or AI business to register and license with a new society, and the Artificial Intelligence Bill 2026, which would create an Office of the Artificial Intelligence Commissioner; the Kenya Bureau of Standards has also drafted an AI Code of Practice.
