Regulation Status

• No AI-specific regulation yet. Regulatory approach is sectoral and risk-based, relying on existing laws and soft law instruments such as guidelines, sandboxes, and policy documents. Multiple ministries and authorities are involved in AI oversight, including the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Privacy Protection Authority, and sectoral regulators (e.g., financial, health).
• National strategy and governance structures are evolving, with recent establishment of a National AI Directorate and expert forums to guide policy. Draft policies and guidance documents emphasise ethics, human rights, transparency, non-discrimination, and alignment with international standards, but are not legally binding. Regulatory sandboxes and pilot programs are being used to test and inform future regulatory frameworks, especially in finance and healthcare. Ongoing public consultations and open calls for feedback on draft guidance and regulatory proposals indicate a flexible, adaptive approach to AI governance.
