Regulation Status
- Iraq has no comprehensive, binding AI-specific law in force; it relies on a national AI strategy and ethics-oriented guidance while a dedicated AI law is being drafted.
- Iraq's Iraqi National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence (2023) calls for a transparent regulatory framework that encourages responsible and ethical AI implementation and guidelines on data privacy, security and transparency.
- In May 2024 the Minister of Communications said Iraq is drafting a law specifically for AI and called for international regulation of social media and AI; Iraq also engages regionally through the Arab League's 2025 call for an AI regulatory framework aligned with Arab values.
