Iceland has no comprehensive, binding AI-specific law in the digest; it relies on national AI policy and action plans, with the action plan calling to strengthen work on the legal framework for AI.
Iceland's approach rests on policy instruments rather than binding law, including a national Artificial Intelligence Policy (2021) focused on an ethical basis for AI and an AI Action Plan 2024-2026 setting out 25 actions across five themes, with an English version of an AI Action Plan released in 2025.
Iceland participates in Nordic cooperation, joining a 2024 Nordic data protection authorities' declaration on children's data and AI under the GDPR and the Nordic Council of Ministers' funding for a Nordic-Baltic AI Center (2025).
