Regulation Status

  • Greece has no comprehensive standalone national AI law; its binding framework is the EU AI Act, applied through designated national authorities alongside data protection law.
  • As an EU member state, Greece applies the EU AI Act; in November 2024 the Ministry of Digital Governance designated authorities to oversee compliance, including the Hellenic Data Protection Authority, the Ombudsman, the Hellenic Authority for Communication Security and Privacy, and the National Commission for Human Rights, set to receive additional powers by 2 August 2026.
  • Greece has built national AI governance structures, publishing a national AI blueprint in November 2024, renaming the Ministry of Digital Governance to include Artificial Intelligence in 2025, and unveiling a strategic plan including a Secretariat for Artificial Intelligence.
  • The Hellenic Data Protection Authority has been active on AI, closing its investigation into the DeepSeek application in May 2025 after the company appointed an EU representative under the GDPR.
