Regulation Status

Ghana has no comprehensive, binding AI-specific law in force; it relies on strategy documents and draft legislation, with the Emerging Technologies Bill still at consultation stage.
Ghana has moved from debate toward a structured AI framework, launching a National AI Strategy in April 2026 that aims to make Ghana Africa's leading AI hub by 2035, backed by investment in a world-class AI computing centre, preceded by a national digital transformation and emerging technology strategy in 2025.
Ghana has engaged internationally on ethical AI, including a UNESCO-supported Readiness Assessment Measurement for ethical use of AI launched in 2024.
Legislative and regulatory work is underway, including the draft Emerging Technologies Bill 2025 (proposing an Emerging Technologies Agency with an AI Division) released for consultation in October 2025, and Data Protection Commission plans announced in January 2026 to draft regulations targeting AI-generated misinformation and disinformation.
