- Based on the available record, Ethiopia has no comprehensive, binding AI-specific law; its approach centres on the National AI Policy and institutional capacity-building.
- Ethiopia's Council of Ministers endorsed a National AI Policy in June 2024 after three years of consultation, covering data management, human-resource development, research and development, infrastructure, law and ethics, and cooperation; the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute (AII) has developed patented technologies, with the Prime Minister describing it as one of Africa's most influential AI institutions (2025).
- Ethiopia is engaged internationally, joining the BRICS+ declaration on AI governance (2025) and pledging closer AI cooperation with China (2026).
