Regulation Status
- As a standard-setting bloc the CIS produces model legislation and recommendations for members to adopt rather than binding AI law of its own.
- The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is an interparliamentary cooperation body, not a national regulator; its Interparliamentary Assembly Permanent Commission on Science and Education has worked on a model law to regulate AI, issuing draft recommendations including ethical R&D standards in 2023.
- The Commission adopted the concept of the draft Model Law on AI in October 2023 and approved a draft model law in April 2024, aiming to create uniform definitions, principles and common rules for AI use across CIS member states.
