Brunei has no comprehensive, binding AI-specific law in the record; its approach rests on draft guidance and forthcoming responsible-use guidelines rather than dedicated legislation.
Brunei's Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) announced in March 2024 that it will draft guidelines for the responsible use of AI to address ethical concerns amid rising adoption of generative AI tools, and a draft Guide on AI Governance and Ethics for Brunei (2022) exists for organisations designing, developing, deploying or using AI.
Brunei engages regionally on AI, with ministers discussing AI regulation at Singapore International Cyber Week (2024) and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation adopting the 2025 Digital and AI Ministerial Statement emphasising secure and responsible AI adoption.
