- Belgium has no separate comprehensive national AI statute; domestic activity centres on applying existing EU and data protection law to AI.
- As an EU member state, Belgium applies the EU AI Act; the Belgian Data Protection Authority has published a report on the intersection of the GDPR and the AI Act, emphasising transparency, accountability and fairness, particularly for high-risk AI systems (2024).
- The Belgian DPA opened an investigation into the Chinese AI model DeepSeek for potential GDPR breaches (2025), and Belgium joined a 2025 joint statement by data protection authorities on trustworthy data governance for privacy-protecting AI.
