Regulation Status

• Argentina has no comprehensive, binding AI-specific law in force; it relies on general data protection law and non-binding guidance while multiple AI bills move through Congress.
• Argentina also engages internationally, including non-binding guidance (Disposition 2/2023), the AI National Plan (2019) and regional declarations such as the Cartagena Declaration on AI governance (2024).
• The data authority AAIP has issued guidance on transparency and personal data protection in AI and received a complaint against Meta over use of personal data for AI training, and the Ministry of Security established an AI unit (UIAAS, 2024) using real-time facial recognition; President Milei has signalled a less restrictive regulatory approach.
• Legislative initiatives before the Chamber of Deputies include a Federal Observatory on Artificial Intelligence (Bill 3900-D-2024), a Committee on Artificial Intelligence and New Technologies (Bill 2397-D-2025), personal data protection in AI systems (Bill 4243-D-2025), regulation of facial recognition technologies (Bill 4420-D-2025), and mandatory identification, labelling and transparency for AI-created or AI-modified digital content (Bill 4362-D-2026).
